Herpes appears due to an attack by the herpes simplex-1 and herpes simplex-2 viruses. The virus spreads from one person to another through close contact.


Through contact with infected saliva (through kissing, eating from the same utensils, or sharing personal items) Herpes simplex virus type 1 can be transmitted. It is associated with infections of the mouth, lips, and face.

On the other hand, Herpes simplex virus type 2 is sexually transmitted and is associated with genital sores or ulcers. There is also a cross infection, caused through oral-genital contact,  that is leading to genital herpes in the mouth and oral herpes in the genital area.

Here are some home remedies for treating herpes:

  1. Ice Packs

Ice can relieve the pain and discomfort caused by herpes outbreaks. To have the best result follow these instructions:

  • Wrap an ice cube in a cloth or towel.
  • Put it on the affected area and hold it for 10 minutes.
  • Repeat this several times a day for a couple of days until you see improvement.
